Collaborating to Make Water Sustainability a California Reality

The sessions at California Water Stewardship Leaders’ Summit included topics ranging from “Creating a Shared Vision and Elevating Ambition for a Sustainable Water Future” to “Advancing Multi-Sector Water Stewardship Partnerships,” as well as a field trip to the Nigiri Project at Knaggs Ranch to see water stewardship in action.

The Almond Board’s participation in this summit is part of our ongoing investment in production efficiency and sustainability.

Water is essential to growing any food and given our crop’s unique suitability for California’s climate, the almond community is especially focused on exploring new avenues to create sustainable water resources and to ensure that farmers are using the most efficient irrigation practices to get the most crop-per-drop of water.

Over the past 20 years, the almond community has reduced the amount of water needed to grow a pound of almonds by 33 percent.¹ Collaborative meetings such as these aim to help almond growers continue in there improvements along with all California farmers.
