Trust and Transparency — Mike Mason, Chair, Almond Board of California

3/14/2016

As consumers and customers around the world have demonstrated that the sustainable1 progress of almond farming is as important as the enjoyment and nutritional benefits of our product, it has become increasingly clear that the California Almond industry has entered into a new era calling for trust and transparency.

For many years, we have operated on our two main strategic pillars: A Crop of Choice for California and The Nut of Choice globally. Our industry has diligently pursued continuous improvements in production practices that make sense for the grower, through research and outreach, while keeping a focus on product quality and safety that is essential for our customers.

The prominence of our industry has now propelled us into a leadership role in California agriculture that inspires us to meet and exceed the expectations of our neighbors, customers and consumers.

Your Board of Directors participated in a strategic retreat recently to look closely at this new leadership role, and how we can move our industry forward to maintain that role through programs such as the Accelerated Innovation Management (AIM) initiatives, and to market development. It is through the AIM initiatives that the California Almond industry will share its progress, providing the transparency that is necessary to earn trust in the marketplace.

I invite you to read closely
the article "Almond Board of California Embraces Leadership Role and Plans for the Future" about the outcome of this retreat, and to consider your role in maintaining the leadership of California Almonds.

Sincerely,

Mike Mason,
Chairman, Almond Board of California
