Sabrina Poth, Helping Handlers Stay in Compliance

4/10/2019

Sabrina PothSince joining the Almond Board of California (ABC) last October, Sabrina Poth continues to keep busy working on behalf of almond handlers.

In her role as a specialist in ABC’s Marketing Order Services department, Poth’s day-to-day is essentially supervising handler compliance of the Pre-Export Checks (PEC) program. Her focus is to keep handlers updated and informed of almond marketing order requirements around aflatoxin certification, and she takes pride in saving handlers time, money and, especially, sparing them additional frustration.

“We’re here to be a helpful, informative resource,” Poth said. “Handlers are hard-working people, and I want to help them by making it easy to understand marketing order requirements and to stay in compliance.”

As Poth points out, shifting market developments in the EU and other regions around the globe make it essential for handlers to stay on top of changes in requirements for regulatory documentation and compliance.

Prior to working at ABC, Poth worked with various local, state and federal agencies. In her previous role, Poth was an inspector with the Pesticide Use Enforcement department at the Stanislaus County Agricultural Commissioner’s office. There she worked with pest control advisors, private businesses, growers, ranchers and government agencies to monitor and ensure safe, compliant agricultural usage of pesticides.

“As an inspector, you gain so many experiences in the field with people across this vast industry,” Poth said. “That job really prepared me for my current role with Almond Board.”

In addition to supervising the PEC Program, Poth also helps to ensure education and compliance with other ABC initiatives, such as food safety compliance, training and audit activities.

Poth holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural studies and biological sciences from California State University, Stanislaus. Outside the ABC offices, you’ll find Poth enjoying time with her two young sons. And, as a longtime drummer she’s hoping one of them will pick up the sticks one day, too.
