Under the new Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), key personnel in charge of managing the food safety plan at a food processor must be a “Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).” To become a PCQI, individuals must be trained using FDA-approved curriculum and training materials.
The Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) has partnered with the FDA to develop a course curriculum to meet these requirements, and Almond Board of California (ABC) will provide this curriculum to almond handler employees who have a responsibility for the development and implementation of the handler’s food safety plan and for FSMA compliance.
The training sessions will include examples and data specific to the almond industry, and all who finish the course will receive a certificate acknowledging completion of the PCQI training.
The first PCQI training course will take place June 1–3 at the Almond Board offices in Modesto. Additional training may become available, depending on demand. This is a unique and cost-efficient opportunity to meet the PCQI training requirement for almond handling facilities.
