With the growing use of sticky traps baited with navel orangeworm (NOW) pheromones comes the need to understand just how to use the data collected from these traps in planning management programs, including mating disruption. These issues will be presented at an upcoming meeting, “Using Navel Orangeworm Pheromone Traps: Tips, Strategies and Future Applications for Making Informed Management Decisions.”
Topics under discussion are the relationships between NOW egg and male moth capture; trap efficacy and the use of traps for insecticide timing; trapping data and decision making; and NOW mating disruption.
Presenters include Dr. Kris Tollerup, Cooperative Extension IPM advisor; Dr. Joel Siegel, USDA-ARS, Brad Higbee, Wonderful Orchards; and Dr. Chuck Burks, USDA ARS.
The meeting will be held Nov. 14 from 8:00 a.m. to noon in the Nectarine Room of the Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Parlier. CE credits of 2.5 hours (other) are offered.
