Growers' practicing healthy soil initiatives eligible for cost-share funding

9/15/2017

Applications are now available for a state cost-share program offering investments in healthy soils and ecosystems. Almond growers who apply for these funds can help reduce or avoid greenhouse gas emissions by implementing certain practices in the orchard. Eligible almond grower practices include: intentionally planted cover crop, mulching, whole orchard recycling, compost applications, contour buffer strips, hedgerow planting and riparian forest buffer.

Through the Healthy Soils Program, this program is funded by proceeds from the state’s cap-and-trade auctions targeted to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Applications are due tomorrow, September 19, at 5 p.m. Prospective applicants may refer to the Health Soils Program webpage or contact CDFA’s Grants Office at grants@cdfa.ca.gov with general program questions.
