The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) will take center stage at this year’s Food Quality and Safety Symposium, with compliance dates coming soon for some handlers. Speakers will address FDA’s Treenut Risk Assessment Assignment, and specifically the Almond Risk Assessment. Growers, handlers and custom processors will learn which rules apply to them, and growers and huller/shellers covered under the farm definition will learn the basic requirements for produce safety.
The Symposium takes place June 16 at a new venue, The Seasons McHenry Event Center in Modesto.
This is a must-attend event for growers and huller/shellers who may meet the farm definition. They need to find out which rules they are subject to and how to begin preparing ahead of the compliance dates. Most growers will have until Nov. 17, 2017, before the compliance for the Produce Safety rule begins.
Presentations include:
- The FDA Treenut Risk Assessment Assignment – Learnings, outcomes and next steps with retail sample survey results. Dr. Rhoma Johnson, FDA
- Hazard Analysis on Almonds – Resources to help you conduct the “Almond Hazard Analysis.” Dr. Linda Harris, UC Cooperative Extension specialist
