The versatility of almonds has boosted their popularity over hazelnuts in Europe for new-product introductions.
And, for the first time, thanks to their versatility, almonds have overtaken hazelnuts in Europe as the most popular nut in new-product introductions. Almond introductions grew 8% globally in 2015, according to the Innova New Products Report1, even though overall nut introductions were down 7%. Almonds continue to be a favorite for lactose-free and gluten-free products, and flavor trends include pairings with coconut and green tea.
