2016 looks like another banner year for nutrition research, funded by Almond Board of California (ABC), with the publication of the University of Florida study on diet quality for parents and their children. Please see the article, “Almonds Associated with Improved Diet Quality.”
These results came out just before the federal government released the 2015–2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which focus on an overall dietary pattern with plant-based foods — like almonds — front and center.
Almonds are featured as one of three examples in the protein food group, and they are highlighted as a food that Americans should consume more of.
ABC presently has seven human clinical trials ongoing in the U.S. and key global markets in Europe and Asia on metabolic health, cognition and smart snacking. This is in addition to four recently completed studies being written up for publication. This research will be presented at the American Society for Nutrition’s annual conference in San Diego, April 2–6, with several graduate students funded to do almond research competing for awards recognizing emerging leaders in nutrition science.
