The Almond Board of California (ABC) staff recently attended the International Nut and Dried Fruit (INC) Congress in Chennai, India. The event draws trade members from more than 60 countries and offers a unique opportunity to meet with other companies from around the world to discuss the nut trade, and current factors which will impact growth.
An update of the global almond market was covered during an Almond Round Table chaired by Bill Morecraft of Blue Diamond Growers (BDG) and featured panelists Warren Cohen (BDG), Ashok Krishen (Olam), and Antonio Pont Jr. (Crisol). Efforts to promote almonds were featured during a session on global nut campaigns, where Richard Waycott and Sudarshan Mazumdar gave a brief presentation about ABC programs and activities in India. Dr. Karen Lapsley of ABC is now a member of the INC Nutrition Committee which reviews and funds worldwide nut research. Julie Adams of Almond Board of California has been the vice-chair of the INC Scientific and Government Affairs Committee for several years, which follows market access and technical issues impacting nut trade.
