We love almonds every day, but today is a special celebration of all the goodness wrapped up in a satisfying handful of our favorite snack. February 16 is National Almond Day and it falls within National Heart Month, a great reminder that a serving of heart-healthy almonds contains 6 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber and 13 grams of monounsaturated “good” fat. It’s truly the snack that loves you back!
To share the love of almonds this year, Almond Board of California is launching an initiative timed with Almond Day to petition for an almond emoji. Yes, that’s right. So many other foods have their own emoji allowing food lovers to quickly and easily send out these fun images to the world. Now it’s time for almonds to be represented. They do hold a distinct position amongst the tree nuts since they are highest in 4 essential nutrients – some of which are hard to get in natural food sources.
Be a part of the initiative to petition for an almond emoji! It’s very simple, just sign the petition on our website here. And while you’re there, check out fun videos and social media from our almond fans also supporting this cause. Then, be sure to spread the word on your own social media with by using #AlmondEmoji and share with as many people as possible. Let’s rally around for the almond emoji!
As if that wasn’t enough excitement, this time of year always makes us think of lovely pairs. And who better to show us how to enjoy tasty almonds with other tasty foods than a dynamic duo of Registered Dietitians? We partnered with Wendy and Jessica of Food Heaven Made Easy to create quick almond pairings that will satisfy that sweet tooth. Check out their ideas!
